let's sew wednesday?

hello and welcome! i'm trying something here, let's sew wednesday's. every wednesday i'll show you something fabric related, something i made, or something i enjoy. we'll see how this goes! for today's show and tell project is a check book cover for my mom. i swear she is the only person in the world who writes checks for EVERTHING. she has a debt card that i do believe she has only used once and that was from pressure from me.

she's been asking for one for a while now, she even tried to find a pattern. i found a couple on the internet, but i wanted simple and easy. i measure out the sad blue cover they give you with your checks and added about 1/4 of an inch and cut out 2 pieces of the main colored fabric and a piece of interfacing (about an 1/8 of inch smaller). i sandwhich those together, then for the inside i cut out 2 pieces of corridnating fabric 3in by the width of the main fabric (which i believe was 6 3/4in?). i hemmed the top part of the inside fabric and placed one on each end and sewed them together (see top photo). i then cut a strip of fabric 1 1/2in wide for a binding and sewed that on! i had some issues sewing the binding on, so don't look to closely at my stitches :). enjoy! lisa

a birthday card

hello! so many birthday's coming up in my world. friends and family, september is a big birthday month for me. i made this card for the bombshell stamp august sketch, using day of the dead stamp set and vitage type set lettering stamp. for the pink eyes i used stickles and for the blue eyes and mouths, i used a 97 cent glitter glue i got at walmart! (even though i'm not the biggest walmart fan) they have a great collection of 97 cent items like punches and stamps and glitter glue! i'm also going to enter this into simply betty challenges 'using another sketch' enjoy! lisa

sideshow stamps!!!!!

hello! ok, so i lied, i had said that i had good news coming on monday. well, of course, i couldn't wait. i'm a guest designer on the sideshow stamps design team! for the next four weeks i'll be making some awesome things with these wonderful, kitschy stamps! for my project i used 'mod girl' (this is who i want to be when i grow up) i colored everything but her shoes and top with copic markers, i left the shoes and top alone, i loved them in just black and white. for the background i painted it pink then added pattern paper on top. distressed a page from a book then layered some white transulate paper on top of that. i used an ms butterfly punch and a circle punch, which i ran through the crimper thing. i stapled the ribbon together a) cause i was too lazy to get out my sewing machine and b) for the smeared and smudged junk funk challenge. i cut out a couple of design's out of lace just for an added touch. i used some pop-up dots for my girl so she pops off the page! i'm also going to enter this in the bombshell shabby shic, stampotique designer's blog, the book page, and flutter by wednesday with my 2 punches! enjoy! head on over to sideshow stamps and tell tme hi! lisa

hello, what's happing? this beatuiful piece of work is from a pattern called 'garden path' from my very good friend leann. the 3 center row fabrics are vintage feed sack bags (i bought a big bag of these at a garge sale and had no idea what they were until leann told me). this quilt was super easy and yet i have no idea why it took me 7 months to finish it. i truely have a problem finishing large projects.
in the first picture, did you see the ground? it's awful here in south texas. i can count the times it has rain this year on ONE HAND. i have never prayed for a hurrican to come (be careful what you wish for and tempating fate and all that) but we really need rain here, bad!!!! i miss having grass. anywho, the yo-yo's are also made from the same feed sack bags. this was a fun quilt, not my taste though, it was made for a gift. oh and something just plain strange, every evening our ice cream person has been driving around playing Christmas music of all things! enjoy! lisa

hello and welcome! sometimes i have issue's titling my post, i don't know why. oh and i would like to welcome the wonderful new followers!!!! yay for new followers!!!!! for today i made a super awesome card with the tarot set from smeared ink. i colored it with colored pencils, then to mute the colors i smudged pearl ex on top, plus it gives it an extra shimmer, i also did that for the base of my card. i punched out the butterflies with a ms punch and ran them through a crimper thing. (don't you love how i make up words and don't know what things are called ;) oh, but if someone asks a question, i'm going to start editing the post to show the answer! and!!!! i have some great news on monday, so make sure and check back! i'm going to enter this at smudgy antics and haunted design house. and at forever night challenges and here is the info, as promised, on the 31 days of halloween!!!! super excited and have things started and ideas swarming around! enjoy! lisa

pillow!

hello and welcome back! sorry for the dark photo. for this super awesome pillow, i used a paper piecied pattern, victorian titles, from leann. i love this pattern! i've made 2 more pillows from it (later post). the emboridery design came from urban threads. the only problem i have is the little bird fabric. all the fabrics looked great together before they were put together. after it was made, i realized that it was just to light. if i have some more of the green, i'll make another, but not with the cute little birds, i should have saved it! the others i made were for the boys, i would like to make about 3 more for our bed. enjoy! lisa

hello guys and dolls! i made this creepy little card with the kids from stampitcrazy and the moon is from smeared ink. for the background, i mixed brown and red paint with a little water and splattered it. the circle the kids are on, i distressed and sprayed with mayan spray in red. i colored the kids with pencils, then inked them with browns and reds, then sprayed them to give the look of splattered blood. for the moon, i inked up some yellow cs, heat embossed with moon with distressing powder. i colored the clouds with a little bit of blue distressed ink. i'm going to enter this is in haunted design house creepy kids, smeared and smudged sketch challenge, and smudgy antics splattered challenge. enjoy! lisa

smeared and smudged blog!!!

****edit to answer some questions****

hello and welcome to the smeared and smudged member blog hop!!!! the theme is paint! well maybe i didn't go all out with the paint, but i did kinda of 'paint' with alcohol inks (it is acetate that the images are stamped on), which is the background of the stamped images. my images are from smeared ink, tattered angels, tim hotlz, bombshell, and a few i can't remember (sorry). i painted the picture frame with a dark brown mixed with a light copper. for the little fiber flowers/puffs things, i made my own glubers things.
i didn't have any small enough, so i took a piece of a clear wrapper, added a circle of e6000 and wrapped my fibers in the circle, then i sprinkled a few micro beads (they didn't take a very good pic, you can't see them, but i promise they are in the finished product. after the glue dries, just cut around your circle. of course you can make any shape you want, easy, cheap, and fast! now get to hopping! enjoy! lisa

smudgefest day 7!!!!

hello guys and dolls! wow, i made it to the last day ;). today, the smeared ink ladies gave us a digi stamp(thank you so much!) to use in today's challenge. he is called calypso, and he's adorable! now i'm not the biggest fan of rodents, but as long as i control what they look like, i'm cool. i colored him with some copics and gave him a crown. on the crown, i added some micro beads. i sprayed the flowers so the didn't look so cute. i fussy cut (thank you leann) the circle paper. enjoy! lisa

smudgefest day 5!!!!

hello guys and dolls, well we have made it this far!!! yea for us!!!!! so today is 'flowing friday', perfect for another coaster! i used alchol inks for this one. i used a green, blue and purple. i did a single layer, rolled it all around then stamped it with a gate from holy cities from smeared ink.  i added some blending solution and a couple more drops of ink. it was just to much, so i light placed a peice of paper on top to soke so of it up, that was wrong. you could no longer see the gate, just a small amount remains, so more ink and soluction later, and a big and small spider from lil bo peep, i have this! i really like how the colors turned out. enjoy! lisa

smudgefest day 2

hello and welcome back to day 2! i'm kinda following a theme, i'm trying to make some coasters, so i've made something with tile again. like yesterday, today, i took a plain white tile and spray glimmer mist and heat gunned it. in the middle, you can kinda of see the 'as death' from smeared ink. how i got that affect is, i painted a thick coat of black paint, sprayed with glimmer mist, inked up my stamp with white ink, then inked it with the black paint, right after i stamped it, i sprayed it again, then heat gunned it again.  oh, i almost forgot, the theme for today is terrifying tuesday.  well, i aboulstly terrified of birds (i think my parents let me watch the movie way to soon). so that is the reason for all the birds, i believe they will poke your eyes out and carry off to the land of the darkness. enjoy! lisa

smudgefest day 1

hello and welcome to the very first day of smudgefest '11, were there will be the showcasing of great work done in less then a day for an entire week!!!! what is smudgefest you ask? well, smudgy antics, the smeared ink design team blog, are bringing in their weekly challenges in with a bang! so everyday this week they are putting up a new challenge, and all who play along get entered into a drawing for all, yes that is all, of smeared inks digi stamps!!!! you have till midnite tonite to enter! consitdering the day i've had and i was able to do this in less then an hour, you too still have time to play along. this day was crazyness, a pet died, some of the family is mad at others, in general things not going my way today. anywho, day's challenge is manic monday, do a bipolar project. so, on a tile, i sprayed glimmer mist blue on one half, and silver on the other, (i used a piece of paper to make the divide) then i heat guned it to make the awesome swirls you see before you.  i used the tree from shadow things from smeared ink.  on the bottom, i wanted a grass like feeling, so i cut black and blue paper, and sprayed with the oppsite colors. make sure you come back tomorrow to see if i can keep up :) enjoy! lisa
